Why are Americans turning a blind eye?
As the financial crisis and total deterioration of our country continues we continue to hear more and more “bad behavior” from companies that are taking American Tax dollars for their faltering companies. Americans show some outrage, but seem unwilling to act in a way to really get government to listen. When did we decide it was ok to just trust governments’ opinions and acts and let them do as they please?
In recent history, the Patriot Act is easy to recall of a time when we expected whole-heartedly that our government was acting in our best interest. Our reaction was not rational; it was merely out of fear. The percentage of people, especially at that time, that truly understood all the rights that would be taken away under the Patriot Act was dismal.
Now we have the TARP funds being thrown around from the blank checks we’ve given to Congress and hear the amazingly insane ways these “failing” companies are spending it. I think we’ve all heard the ludicrous AIG stories throughout recent months. Other banks took their TARP money and have turned around and used it for acquisitions, proving they never truly needed the money to “save” themselves.
Martha Stewart may have ended up in jail for insider trading, but where are all the warrants for these Wall Street and Lending executes who just bankrupt the world? Why are they not being held accountable for their deceptive practices? Madoff wasn’t the only scammer out their costing us. I want to see some type of true ramifications for the current state of our world, not another blank check to save companies that brought themselves down!
Now in the news is the Obama administration attempting to put credit card companies back in line with their abusive rate hikes with little notice to consumers. These credit card companies are merely sending out letters to their clients saying “we’ve raised your interest rate!” This rate is then retro-active, meaning it will now be applied to the debt the cards already carry. So if these people were even trying to be responsible with their credit cards, knew what their monthly costs would be with their current debt load and interest rate, that math has now been thrown out the window.
So where is the outrage and call for action? Have we truly become a society that trusts our government? Do we all really think just sitting back and letting this happen is not dangerous? Our founding fathers instituted a system of checks and balances to ensure that our government would be representative of the people, not become the all powerful one voice of our country. These safeguards have become perverted to the fullest extent.
How many people actually even write their local representatives anymore to voice their opinions? I would say a small percentage. Even of that small percentage, I assume only a few actually feel like their voice or concerns are even heard anymore.
We go to the election polls year after year, electing the same useless representatives who are nothing more then “yes” men/women for their party and no long a true voice of their constituents and that is just wrong! We need to become more informed voters and more aware of what these politicians are truly doing in office and even more importantly; what they are taking away from us!
We need to get off our lazy boys and start actually taking the time to read a newspaper, become informed voters, and citizens in this country. We may have already lost more rights then we can count, but letting our politicians continue down this slippery slope can truly ruin everything this country was founded on.
Ill try to share your opinion on this, but I need more time to research this.
